Latest Project: Symbol Photography

Latest Project: Symbol Photography

With every project, I gain a little more knowledge and experience about my business. Sometimes it’s technical stuff, sometimes it’s philosophical, sometimes it’s just getting a glimpse into a profession that I previously had zero knowledge of. In the case of Symbol Photography, I got a little of everything. This was a fun project, albeit, challenging at times. I needed to learn a new technology (Simple Pie RSS Reader), learned a little about the Wedding Photogrpahy industry, and most importantly, I realized that I can be more flexible in my methods of doing things and still produce killer end results. Could it be that there is more than one way to do things? It’s a hard one to admit, but I think so!

On to the technical stuff. This site has it all: a gorgeous design, sound xhtml/css, and lots of extra goodies. Features include:

  • Simple Pie RSS feed
  • Flash/XML powered calendar
  • Flash/XML powered slideshow
  • CSS drop down menu with opacity, image rollovers, and rounded corners
  • Contact form with CAPTCHA, form validation, and autoresponder
  • Custom WordPress Blog made to match the site seamlessly
  • Flash/XML Galleries (credit to Brendan at Symbol Photography)
  • Organic Search Engine Optimization

Thanks, audo. I love simple pie. I’m so glad I found it because there are a LOT of difficult and unreliable blog feed apps out there.

So what's with all the birds, anyway?
Well, they stem from our company name. Jessica Miller, our founder and lead designer, chose the name Corvus as an homage to her favorite types of birds (those of the genus Corvus). Jessica gets a lot of her inspiration from nature, particularly wildlife, and wanted to incorporate her love of nature into her business life. This often shows in her design style, which has been described as "organic" and "ethereal".
